Non "Palais Dolly" sed "Paredri"

Earlier this morning, I read a message from someone who mentioned the ミラーパレドリー, the creatures made of glass that Nehellenia in the anime controls. Later, I looked up "パレドリー" at Google. What did I find? Well, I found several things. The site that got me excited was this list of monsters (which is in Japanese):

http://f61.aaa.livedoor.jp/~toroia/data/monster3.html#Paredrii

Here is the パレドリー section:

パレドリー
Paredrii

ギリシア パレドリイ。
 ギリシア語で使い魔のこと。

Here is a translation:

Paredrii
Paredrii
Greece Paredrii
Greek for familiar spirits.

Now that is interesting! After I read that, I thought I had found the real meaning of "パレドリー." For years, I thought it meant "Palais Dolly"," but I was never really satisfied with that spelling.

Okay, so, is that really a Greek word? Well, the ending -ii looks like a Latin plural. Sometimes Greek words are Latinized and given Latin grammatical endings. The plural form of the word in Greek is πάρεδ̓ρος (paredros), which indeed refers to a familiar spirit. The Greek plural form is πάρεδροι (paredroi). However, the Latinized spelling of the word is paredri, not paredrii (paredri spiritus means "familiar spirits"). That means the glass creatures are really the

Mirror Paredri

and one of them is a

Mirror Paredros

It seems to me that Mirror Paredri makes more sense than Mirror Palais Dolly. A paredros serves a person, just as the mirror creatures serve Nehellenia.

LWotP: paredros -i m. "familiar."

That does make much more sense! Mirror Palais Dolly doesn't make anywhere near as much sense. It's great to see you've found a more satisfactory meaning!
Yes, and I hope someday to figure out what exactly "Germatoid" is supposed to mean. I'm not really satisfied with what I presently think it means.
I think that one of the reasons that I did not find this out sooner is that the spelling used in the anime itself, パレドリィ, refers to the misspelling paredrii.
Will that be on DIES GAUDII when you update it? Or Metallia = Metaria (or was that alread on your website...?)

Not trying to be pricky, I'm just wondering...
The Metaria thing has been on my site for quite a while.
Oh. Sorry for overlooking it then ^_^;
If you had consulted with me years ago we could have had the answer. I had seen it mentioned in a greek mythology book in the highschool I had gone to. I saw it in the glossary, and it was just mentioned on a page without any back story or details. I never put said info on my site because aside from having a clue of it being a greek-something, I had nothing else to go on. That's where you would have come in... Oh well, you've got it now and that' what matters. ;)
Ha! And here I was thinking it was a trans...something of 'parody', as in the creature being 'a parody of a human being'.

Hey, it made sense to me. ;)

How literary!
