Anne Frank's tree to be cut down

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - The ancient chestnut tree that comforted Anne Frank while she was in hiding during the Nazi occupation of Holland must be cut down, the Amsterdam city council said Tuesday.

The diseased tree in the courtyard behind the canal-side warehouse where the Frank family took refuge for more than two years has been attacked by an aggressive fungus and a moth, called the horse chestnut leaf miner. Experts estimate the tree's age at 150-170 years.

I found this in someone's signature:

Mr. Clemens (Mark Twain) was once asked whether he feared death. He said that he did not, in view of the fact that he had been dead for billions and billions of years before he was born, and had not suffered the slightest inconvenience from it.

One of the things that I no longer really fear is death. If I had never learned to stop fearing death so much, I probably would have had a lot of trouble starting my R-Girl story.

Epistulae Nobis Partem Aliam Annae Francae Ostendunt

Someone in the anne_frank community posted this link:

Letters Show Different Side of Anne Frank

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) -- Any father of a headstrong 14-year-old girl might recognize the words: ''Just leave me alone, if you don't want me to stop trusting you for good.'' The furious letter from Anne Frank to her father, Otto, was written nearly two years after the Frank family locked itself into a concealed apartment to escape deportation by the Nazi army occupying the Netherlands.

That is hardly surprising to me. Anne was not known to behave all the time. In fact, sometimes she was a brat! It does not help that movie adaptations have portrayed Anne as "a pure, unblemished martyr."

Anyway, I really do not know what else to say about it other than random stuff. Like, cheese telephones murder cases inside notwurst golf ball lights every day to and from Lesbos. And Mohammad snacks playing water flutes with dreamcatchers drinking cake burglers now and then.

Prophetia Paparum et Libri Praedictionum Feminarum Resuscitatarum

I learned about this goofiness on television:

Prophecy of the Popes

As far as I can tell...

  • The Latin phrases are vague enough for me to say, "Wow, but how could so many phrases not fit their respective people?"

  • Some of the Latin translations there are a bit off. For instance, it seems to me that "De Pannonia Tusciae" means "From Pannonia of Tuscany," not "From Tuscian Hungary," as that article claims.

Oh, wait, I just received word that archeologists have discovered the ancient...

Libri Praedictionum Feminarum Resuscitatarum...

meaning "The Books of the Prophecies of the Resurrected Women." It describes how seven women will be resurrected from the dead so that they can fight the evils in the world.

Pheona wrote something odd in her deviantArt journal:

A friend from the PGSM forums wants me to make a picture of Bonnie Parker and Annie Okley (sp?). That is all he gave me, so I'll have to try and figure out something

But I also mentioned that they should be "Gun Girls," similar to what she did with the "Piano Girls," Clara and Fanny. That "Gun Girls" theme should entail, I think, Bonnie and Annie with their guns; they should be aiming and firing. Other than that, I do not have anything specific in mind. I think that gives her some artistic freedom.

Anyway, I like this picture she did a while back:

Dosei no Senshi, Sive Aaron Malhiotus, Indici Meo Additus Est!

I added my friend Aaron to my Friends List this morning! I did not know he already had a LJ account.

He really is into a certain Super Sentai series. In fact, he even made up Super-Sentai-ish names and titles and such for some of the moderators and administrators at the Genvid/DIES GAUDII forums! How cute and clever!

I asked him what Rangers the R-Girls would be, and he said "復女戦隊才連者【ふっじょせんたいサイレンジャー】," which seems to be something like "Resurrected Woman Task Force Sairanger" (the "Sai" in "Sairanger" means "genius" or "talent"). That would be "Resuscitātārum Fēminārum Mīlitāris Ūnitās Ingeniituitrīcēs" in Latin. After he said "復女戦隊才連者【ふっじょせんたいサイレンジャー】," I asked him what the R-Girls' individual names and titles would be. He said that he was busy at the time. Well, I can try my luck on the names:

  • Rēgīnituitrīx! Caelestis Stella Versāliārum, Maria Antoinetta!
Queen Ranger! Heavenly Versailles Star, Marie Antoinette

  • Prōscrīptituitrīx! Caelestis Stella Texiae, Bonnia Parcera!
Outlaw Ranger! Heavenly Texas Star, Bonnie Parker!

  • Sure-Shot-tuitrīx! Caelestis Stella Ohīī, Annia Oakleia!
Sure Shot Ranger! Heavenly Ohio Star, Annie Oakley!

  • Wunderkind-tuitrīx! Caelestis Stella Lipsiae, Clara Schumanna!
Wunderkind Ranger! Heavenly Leipzig Star, Clara Schumann!

  • Flōrigerituitrīx! Caelestis Stella Hamburgī, Fannia Hensela!
Flowered Ranger! Heavenly Hamburg Star, Fanny Hensel!

  • Diāriituitrīx! Caelestis Stella Amstelodamī, Anna Franca!
Diary Ranger! Heavenly Amsterdam Star, Anne Frank!

  • Studiōsituitrīx! Caelestis Stella Amstelodamī, Margota Franca!
Studious Ranger! Heavenly Amsterdam Star, Margot Frank!

Ironia Margotae

I am having a lot of fun reading Shadow Life by Barry Denenberg. One section features a re-creation of Margot Frank's diary. Here is part of the July 15, 1943 entry of the diary:

Holding her fountain pen in that odd little grip she invented after she sprained her thumb, she spends countless hours agonizing over every word, updating every entry, constantly revising and rewriting. It's almost as if she truly expects that someday millions of people will be reading her diary. As if she really believes that someday she is going to become a world-famous writer. Well, at least it keeps her mind occupied.

That part is funny to me because what she describes is exactly what happened: millions of people did read Anne's diary. But the part also depresses me because I know what happens before the diary gets published. How bittersweet! It's probably best to expect life to be that way, but the sweet part makes life worth living.

Latin word of the post: ironia, "irony."

  • Two black jackets (I like black)

Cuppediae (Candy)

  • Various chocolate goodies

  • A jar full of M&Ms and nuts

That Harrius Potter et Philosophi Lapis book is pretty amusing. I find it interesing how the translator rendered the names into Latin:

  • Harrius Potter (Harrii Potter): Harry Potter

  • Albus Dumbledore (Albi Dumbledoris): Albus Dumbledore

  • Voldemort (Voldemortis): Voldemort

  • Rubeus Hagrid (Rubei Hagridi): Rubeus Hagrid

  • Schola Hogvartensis Artium Magicarum et Fascinationis (Scholae Hogvartensis Artium Magicarum et Fascinationis): Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry

  • Ronaldus Vislius (Ronaldi Vislii): Ronald Weasley

  • Hermione Granger (Hermionis Granger(?)): Hermione Granger

Hermione's name should be a second-declension noun, not a third-declension one.
