Toroni

"Toroni"
"In Toronto"

Here are some of the things that happened in Toronto:

On Saturday, we arrived in Toronto at about 10. Then we took the subway to the Clarion Hotel & Suites Selby. That is the same place we stayed at last time!

We took the subway most of the time. It's an interesting experience! It's not so bad when there aren't many people, but when it's all crowded, it kind of sucks.

On Sunday morning, we arrived at the ROM at around 9:30. The place wasn't open yet, so we walked along the Philosophers' Walk behind the place. Finally, when the place opened, we got in line, waited, and finally got into the exhibit.

There are two remarkable things about the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit. One of them didn't occur to me until about half way through the thing. There is plenty of background telling people why these things are important, and that's fine, but I eventually began to wonder "Boy, so, are there any, um, Dead Sea Scrolls in this exhibit? You don't actually get to see any of them until about almost near the end.

Hilarious conversion two well-dressed white ladies:

One Lady: "So, what are Sea Scrolls?"

Other Lady: "I dunno, but I had a free ticket, so I thought I'd might as well come."

The other remarkable thing is something that Melissa pointed out. The worldview that inspired the creation of these scrolls is completely alien to us. We can read various parts of the Old Testament of the Bible, but none of that can really prepare you for the sorts of things that you see and read in this exhibit.

There are several parts of the exhibit that might disturb the fundies. I don't remember what they are exactly, but Melissa pointed them out.

After we saw the exhibit, we saw the Book of the Dead exhibit, which is much smaller than the Serious Business one we just got done seeing. At that point, we got ready to meet up with Anthony.

We meet Anthony right outside the ROM! We had a Dim Sum lunch at Bright Pearl! And then we had some snacks and coffee at this little Chinese-type bakery. There were some signs for buns that said "bums"! Hilarious!

After that, we went to Anthony's place. We took a walk and eventually ended up at this Indian-inspired-infusion bar, Stratengers Maharaja or something like that, and had dinner. Melissa and Anthony had some sorts of curry things, but I had pizza! Very nice!

It started raining while we got back. We had to hide under trees because the rain was falling so much. Finally, we got back to Anthony's place and Melissa and I went back to the hotel.

On Monday, we were thinking of going to the art museum, but when we finally got there, we learned that the place is closed on Mondays! And so we decided to go to Casa Loma instead. We were there before a few years ago, but we didn't get to see the gardens because last time we were there too early in the season. We got kind of lost this time, but we eventually made it to the place.

But we saw the gardens this time! It's all very nice! We saw some plants and scientific names and we didn't NOM any chickens. I brought the camcorder with us, so I filmed a little bit of the place. When I have time, I'll upload the videos to YouTube. After that we were getting hungry, so we went out to meet up with Anthony again!

We meet him at a Starbucks, although I'm not entirely sure where that was. I do know it's not too far from Toronto's Church of Scientology. It really was amazing to see the Church building! I wasn't expecting it at all. Anyway, we met up with Anthony and had lunch at this Japanese place named, I think, Masa (or something like that). It was all-you-can-eat! We got quite a bit of stuff. Melissa and Anthony had all of the sushi-related stuff, but I stuck with the teriyaki and chicken stuff. I liked everything I ate.

And then we went to Starbucks to have coffee! Serious Business, indeed! Unfortunately, it started raining again, but that wasn't a bad thing because we had coffee! Coffee can make most things happier! But it was time for Anthony to go. We said good-bye to him. Anthony is hilarious! We'll miss him. Coffee still made the situation not so bad, though.

We walked back to the subway station in the rain. Oh well! We finally got back to the hotel and took a nap. When we got up, we decided to go to this Greek place by foot. Unfortunately, we misjudged the distance, and ended up taking the subway. We got to the Greek part of the city, and since we didn't feel like walking any more, we decided to go to this other Greek place, Mr. Greek.

What a great place! I had some kind of chicken souvlaki wrap thingy, but Melissa had something with a name that escapes me right now. It was all great! Melissa's meal was gigantic! I had to help her eat it, and even then, I didn't finish it. One of the servers was really doing the Greek voice thing. It was disturbing and amusing at the same time.

And then we went back to the hotel. It was time for sleep! I remember waking up at around 4:00 the next morning. It wasn't so bad because I could read in the closet, which had a light. In the closet! That's hilarious!

Our plane was scheduled to leave at around 10:40 in the morning or something like that. We had Starbucks coffee before we got on the plane! And it's a good thing that we had to go on one plane. Excellent! The worst thing about the plane experience is that there was this one kid that just wouldn't keep quiet. How irritating!

Do we want children? "NOOOOOOOO!" Mashka can have children if she wants.

I'm glad to be back! Melissa is too, I'm sure.

I think it's interesting that Anthony and my favorite sister of OTMA have the same birthday.

Anyway, I said I would post pictures of Tatiana. That's what I'm going to do.

Go go Ian-chan Check! )
