The OUT Campaign: Atheists Come Out!

Lectura Secunda Seriei Dialogues with Darwin!

"Lectura Secunda Seriei Dialogues with Darwin!"
"The Second Lecture of the Dialogues with Darwin Series!"

It was not bad! Melissa could not go with me because she wasn't feeling very good.

But Myles and Sam were there! Hao was, too! So was Yasser, but he kind of disappeared on us.

The lecturer this time was Dr. Higgins. He came in to speak in one of my courses before. His position in the Darwin issue, I believe, is some flavor of theistic evolution.

His main point was that there is no conflict between science and religion. Best buddies, in fact! One of his examples, of course, was Dr. Kenneth Miller. Perhaps I should refer to this as the Argumentum ad Millerum. Here is what I think of the whole thing.

The part that bothered me the most was the part where he brought up Richard Dawkin's OUT Campaign and did so in a way that it was designed to make it sound as silly as possible, although he did it politely. Some people laughed. Hao and I didn't like that one bit.

During the question and answer section after the lecture, Hao asked Dr. Higgins an epic question! I don't remember it all, but it had to do with the fact that he disagreed with Higgin's position on the relationship between science and religion.

Myles, Sam, Hao, and I talked a bit afterward. Hao apparently didn't know of the "Complexity" model of the relationship. I told him all about it.

It was a good night. If only Melissa could go with!
